My Life as a Gamer

Wii ControllerEver since I was a preteen I have been playing video games in my own home. I started playing back in the 1970’s. It is amazing how much some things have changed. It’s now possible to backup Wii games for crying out loud! It is also amazing how little other things have changed. When looking back on my years of playing it is fun to look at what has been, what is right now and what will come in the future and with the recent xbox 360 kinect and my rush to the store to get one for Christmas, it is a good time to write down my experiences as a gamer.
I began my life as a gamer by playing Pong. It did not involve anything that was too difficult. But it was impossible to put down. I enjoyed the game with friends and families for a long time. I became obsessed with the game. Becoming the best player was my goal. As I think back on that game, I remember when my parents first. The game was not cheap. I think they spent around $150 to get it. It was a lot of money back then and is very comparable to the cost of the systems that are sold today. The original consoles had only a little variety. There was only one game that could be played. That was the extent of the game. And you certainly couldn’t copy Wii games back then.

After a few years I turned to the Atari system. There were various games that could be purchased for the different consoles. I loved being able to switch the games. There I was driving a race car or playing baseball on my own television. I started to find this technology was even better than before. I still went to the arcade for really good games. However, when I couldn’t get to the mall, I had a substitute. I was spending my own money to buy different titles to play. My only regret was not taking better care of these consoles because in today’s market people pay a lot for the old consoles and titles. Through my college years and as a young adult, I still played video games. I did have other interests that limited the amount I played.

Despite the limitations, I made sure I had a video game or two wherever I was staying. As PC’s hit the market, I got involved with them. Going online gave me something to do as well. Starting a family altered my priorities away from video games. Gaming reappeared because my children wanted to play them. I was getting hooked on them again. The Ps2 seeemed like the right choice for our family. Games were very realistic. There were games for kids of all ages. There were both fun and educational games for our kids. And I also picked out some that I would enjoy. Once our children were asleep it was my turn to play. There were times that I would lose track of the time. It was like I was a kid all over again. It was a lot of fun to escape into these other worlds and I loved playing them.

We had a fairly full schedule and there was not a lot of time available for gaming. My games would be not be played for a month at a time. When I returned to the games, the excitement was still there.

It does not seem to diminish much as the years roll by. This Christmas I bought the kinect and with it came a whole new world of video gaming that has my family and myself moving around and using the video gaming system as our own personal gym while my kids practice their football and baseball techniques. I hope there is no age limit for enjoying these things. The xbox price is 159.99 US Dollars
